McAllen ~ Olga Alicia Cantú González, 82, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022 at DHR Hospital in Edinburg, Tx. She was born June 18, 1939 in General Teran, NL México, the daughter of Pedro Cantú and Dionisia Garza de Cantú.
Olga grew up in General Teran and attended El Colegio Motolina in Montemorelos, NL Mexico where she studied accounting. At the age of 15, her family moved to Monterrey, México and she worked at Banco Nuevo Leon for 10 years. She married Vicente González on February 10, 1964 and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. They had two children and were married for 40 years till his death December 13, 2004. Olga lived in Corpus Christi for 55 years and moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 2019.
Olga attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas where she earned an associate’s degree and got her real estate license. She assisted her husband in running and administering their family paving business. Olga was a member (Guadalupana) of Our Lady of Guadalupe Society at Saints Cyril Methodius Catholic Church in Corpus Christi for many years and sang at the church Mariachi Choir. She enjoyed travel and spending time with family and friends. She often organized touristic trips from Corpus Christi to various states of México for the community. Olga was a beloved and devoted wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Olga Alicia Cantú Gonzalez is preceded in death by her husband Vicente González Sr., her parents (Pedro & Dionisia) and her siblings Francisco, Irma, Maria Guadalupe, Laura, Humberto & Saul Cantú Garza. She is survived by her daughter, Olga Alicia González and her son U.S. Congressman Vicente González Jr. (Lorena Saenz-González). She is also survived by her siblings, Antero, Jesús Manuel, Aaron and Abigail Cantú Garza, as well as extended family.
Visitation (5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.) and Rosary (7:00 p.m.) are scheduled for Monday, January 17, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen, Texas. A Holy Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen. The Burial Blessing will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas. Funeral Arrangements are at the care of Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen, Texas.
