It is with great sadness and grief in our hearts that we announce the passing of our father, brother, and grandfather Richard “Rick” Alvarez.
Rick, 63, from Edinburg, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1st, 2023. Born on June 30th, 1959 to Adolfo and Guadalupe Alvarez from Pearsall, Texas. Rick was a caring father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. As a lifelong resident, he was a strong presence in his community. Descending from a legacy of activism he embraced his role in public service alongside his father, former Frio County Commissioner, Adolfo Alvarez. A strong advocate for civil and voting rights he took an active role in local and state politics at an early age.
He is survived by his father, Adolfo Alvarez Sr., his four children, Richard Alvarez II (Tosha Alvarez), Austin Alvarez, Aaron Alvarez, and Adrian Alvarez. He is also survived by his brothers, Adolfo ‘Al’ Alvarez, Alfredo "Perry" Alvarez (Juanita M. Alvarez), Arturo Alvarez, and Albert Alvarez, and sisters Mary Jane Garcia (Danny Garcia), Adriana Gonzales(Sam Gonzales), Annette Alvarez and Alice Martinez, and grandchild Klayton Alvarez. Rick is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends who loved and cherished him dearly.
Family and friends will be received at Rivera Funeral Home 1901 Pecan Blvd McAllen, Tx. on Saturday, May 13th 2023 from 10 AM to 1 PM with Chapel Service at 11:30.
