Obituary

Roman Andres Meza, a beloved father, son, brother, and friend, passed away in McAllen, Texas on September 6, 2023. Born on June 19, 1978, in McAllen, Roman was known for his incredible sense of humor, his lively spirit, and his handy nature.

Roman was the cherished son of Lazaro Raul and Yolanda Meza. He was a loving brother to Otilia, Juan, Victor, Nanci, and Julio Meza. Roman was a pillar to his family, always ready with a quick joke or a helping hand. He was most importantly a devoted, loving single father to his four children: Jacklynn, Vincent, Christopher, and Sebastian Meza. His ability to lighten the mood and bring laughter into any situation will be deeply missed by his parents, siblings, and children alike.

He was a talented handyman, specializing in painting houses and woodwork. His craftsmanship was appreciated by many, and was often admired for his attention to detail and his ability to transform any space into something beautiful. Roman’s craft was a passion, a way to express his creativity and leave a lasting mark on the world. His knowledge and wisdom on turning wood into an original piece of art showcased his talent and true love for his work.

Carpentry was not his only passion; as music was another significant part of his life. He loved playing the guitar and was known for his wide-ranging, constant shifting, keen taste in music. Obsessions from songs, to albums, to bands, and even genres, shifting as life passed. Roman found joy in sharing his love for music. With every karaoke night, was a night filling his home with endless sounds of musical fervor. Roman's passion for playing guitar was evident in the beautiful strums that flow through the wind, continuing to resonate in the constant echo of the neighborhood… The neighborhood can now sleep without the 3 AM jam sessions on weekdays… His inherent knack for making any gathering a memorable event with his charisma and musical talent will surely be missed.

Besides music, Roman also possessed a passion for cooking, especially when it came to preparing meals for his children and friends. His love reflected in all he did, but it shone brightest in the kitchen. His home-cooked dishes were a tribute to the immense love he shared for his family, friends and neighbors by often sending others home cooked meals demonstrating his desire to bring others comfort and joy.

A lover of both cats and dogs, Roman had a soft spot for animals. His home was often filled with the sounds of purring and barking, providing a warm and welcoming environment for all who entered, leaving behind his beloved dogs Elliott and Luna, and cat Jasper. His compassionate and caring nature easily lent itself to maintaining such a lively household.

Roman was of pure heart and soul. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched, in the laughter he sparked, in the spaces he transformed, and in the melodies he played. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to motivate and inspire, reminding all of us to live life to the fullest and to love without limits. He leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will always live on. So, let's raise a glass to Roman Andres Meza, a man who lived life with a song in his heart, a joke on his lips, and endless love in his soul.
