Rosa "Hunny" Reyes Limas passed away on September 10, 2026, in Weslaco, Texas. She was 86.
Born on September 4, 1940, in Cerro Prieto, Linares, Rosa Reyes Limas lived a life marked by devotion to work, generosity toward others, and deep love for her family. In her professional life, she retired from Mission CISD, where she was known for her strong work ethic and for never missing work. She often said, “Nuestros dias trabajando son los mejor dias de nuestra vida,” a reflection of the value she placed on dedication and purpose.
Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Leonardo Seferino Limas, Sr.; her children, Maria Nieto and Leonardo Seferino Limas, Jr.; and her parents, Domingo and Maria Reyes.
She will be remembered by her daughters, Rosalinda Limas and Nanette Limas Lukasik (Ernest Lukasik); her siblings, Guadalupe Reyes (Juana Reyes), Maria Concepcion Cano (Ruben Cano, Sr.), Moncerrat Reyes, Jose Reyes, Diana Reyes, Ana Rosales (Hector Rosales), Delia Vecchio (Enrique Vecchio, Sr.), and Rene A Reyes; her grandchildren, Cassandra Jimenez (Manny Jimenez), Irene Gonzalez (David Gonzalez), Heriberto Nieto, Jr. (Yazmin Nieto), Rebecca Garcia, and Clarissa Lukasik (Spencer Lukasik); 11 great-grandchildren; and too many nieces, nephews, and godchildren to count.
Beyond her work, Rosa found her greatest joy in time spent with her family. She enjoyed eating sweets and watching black-and-white Mexican movies, and she could name all the artists. Those simple pleasures were part of what made her so memorable to the people around her.
Rosa was also known for her cooking, especially her homemade tortillas, gorditas, and New Year’s Eve buñuelos . These foods became part of the memories shared by those who knew her and spent time at her table.
Though she was not wealthy, Rosa made a point of giving what she could to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and to various Catholic charities. Her willingness to give, even modestly, reflected a life shaped by thoughtfulness and care for others.
Hunny will be missed by all who knew her. Her memory lives on in her family, in the meals she prepared, in the sayings she repeated, and in the many lives touched by her steady presence. A Visitation will be held on September 15, 2026, from 03:00 PM to 09:00 PM at Rivera Funeral Home 1813 N. Conway Ave, Rosary at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on September 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Our Lady Queen of Angels 916 Leo Ave. La Joya, Texas. Interment will follow at La Joya Cemetery.
