SERGIO GARZA, JR of McAllen, Texas passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the age of 48. A beloved husband, son, brother, friend and proud United States Military Hero died peacefully in his sleep with his beloved wife Janie Garza by his side at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, for the old order has passed away.’ Rev. 21:4
Sergio was born in Edinburg, Texas on April 23, 1973, to Sergio Garza Sr. and Noemi H. Zuniga. He is survived by his wife Janie Garza, stepdaughter Amanda Muniz, his parents Noemi Zuniga, Sergio Garza Sr., his sisters Yesenia Garza, Yvonne Garza Zamora (Javier), and Catalina Graham (Mathew), his nieces Ashley Viacobo, Jennifer Viacobo, Vivienne Zamora, Catherine Graham and Elizabeth Graham, and nephews Gabriel Viacobo, Oscar Viacobo, Michael Cavazos, Andres Zamora, Marcus Zamora, and Aaron Zamora
He graduated from Donna High School and shortly after enlisted in the United States Navy. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?’ “Here I am,” I said; “send me!” Isaiah 6:8 He served as US Navy Hospital Corpsman with the Marines as their leading medic aka ‘Doc Garza’. He was stationed in Korea, Okinawa, Japan, North Carolina, and finally Fallujah, Iraq in 2006. He loved his fellow Marines and took care of the injured soldiers while serving with dignity and respect. He was their Guardian Angel. During his military journey, he got to do what he loved the most which was to serve, protect, and defend our countries freedom.
Sergio was very humble, soft spoken and always filled with kindness no matter who he met. He was respectful and had a zeal for life. He unconditionally gave of himself personally and financially specially during birthdays and the holidays. He always had a smile on his face which led to him being nicknamed ‘Doc Giggles’. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Mt 19:14
Family and friends are invited to attend Rivera Funeral Home at 1901 Pecan Blvd. McAllen, Texas 78501 on Sunday, March 27, 2022 between 3:00pm – 9:00pm. Rosary will be at 7:00pm. Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2201 Martin Avenue, McAllen, Tx 78504 on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11:30am. Burial to follow at 1:00pm. Rio Grande Veterans Cemetery 2520 Inspiration Rd. Mission, TX 78572.
