Mission ~ Shirley Ann Netherton was a beacon of kindness, a wellspring of love, and an embodiment of wisdom. Born on May 20, 1938, in the small town of Clearcreek, Ohio, she embarked on a journey that would touch countless lives with her gentle spirit and profound insight. On November 7, 2025, at the age of 87, Shirley's radiant life transitioned to a peaceful close in Mission, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
The daughter of the late Harold Milligan and the late Mae Bell (Robinson) Day, Shirley grew up understanding the value of family and the strength it provides. Her life was a testament to those values, and even as she bid farewell to her beloved husband, Luna “Larry” Netherton, her son, Ricky D. Netherton Sr., her great-grandson, Lucas Gibson, and her siblings, Kathy, Ruthie, and Johny, she remained a pillar of resilience and hope for all who remained.Shirley's story does not end with the sorrow of loss but is instead marked by the love and life that flourished around her. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Leslie Netherton; her grandchildren, Bobbie Jo (Guy) Santoni, Billie Jo (Mike) Walters, and Ricky D. (Amber) Netherton Jr.; her adored great-grandchildren, Korbyn Walters, Anissa Netherton, Ashley (Dylan) Lazarus, Abigail Clinton (Dakotah Flint), Isabella Rosamond, Landon Delong, Mykenzie Netherton, and Ricky D. Netherton III; and her cherished great-great-grandchildren, Callie and Colter Netherton. Her siblings Pat and Barbie also continue to carry the light of her spirit.
Shirley's journey may have reached its sunset, but the dawn of her influence rises with each act of kindness inspired by her memory. Let us honor her not with tears of sorrow but with actions of love, continuing the work of this remarkable woman whose life was a masterclass in humanity. Farewell, dear Shirley, until we meet again on that bright shore where love is the currency and kindness the law of the land.
