Sylvia Elizabeth Gruber

McAllen ~ Sylvia Elizabeth De La Rosa Gruber was called home by our Lord Monday morning June 14, 2021. Born on October 8, 1949 in Alice, Texas to Antonio and Eulalia De La Rosa. After graduating from William Adams H.S. in 1967, she attended Bee County College for 2 years, and went on to graduate from Texas A & I (now Texas A & M Kingsville) with a degree in Education. Already married and a parent, Sylvia attended CCSU (now Texas A & M Corpus Christi( and earned a Master's degree in Early Childhood. 

Sylvia dedicated 49 years of her life doing exactly what she loved, educating children. Mostly a Kindergarten/Pre-K teacher, she loved and treated each child as if they were her own. If her students past or present asked to attend their sporting event, she would go, their birthday party, she would attend, their recital, concert, play or production they were in she would be there taking her onw children then later grandson to support them as well.

Sylvia is preceded in death by both parents.

She is survived by her two children: Melinda Gruber and Howard Gruber; grandson: Trey Wilkinson and granddaughter: Joshlyn Gruber; cousins: Deedy Ramos and Sonia Perez.

Viewing for Sylvia will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with at Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 10:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen.
