Zulema F. Vargas

Zulema F. Vargas, 84, entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. Zulema was born on Monday, March 23, 1936 in San Miguel, Mexico to Alfredo and Isabel Flores. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved spending time with her children and her extended family. She enjoyed drawing, knitting, and completing word searches. Zulema lived life to its fullest. She will be dearly missed by her family and those that came to know her. 

She was preceded in death by her husband: Jesus Vargas; her parents; siblings: Delia, David, Alfredo, and Dora.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children: Jose Edwardo (Melissa) Vargas, Rosa Maria Vargas Cantu, Jose Efren (Noelia) Vargas, and Maria Zulema Vargas (Juan) Castillo; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and brother: Mario Flores. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the recital of the Holy Rosary to begin at 6:00 PM at Rivera Funeral Home, 1901 Pecan Blvd. in McAllen. Funeral services will be Monday, February 22, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen.   

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with social distancing orders, all necessary restrictions will be observed in order to protect the health and safety of those in attendance. Wear face coverings while inside building. Continue to practice social distancing while inside the funeral home chapel. We continue to ask that those at risk or those not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our obituary page.
